I'm a Seattle based
designer,
project manager,
and
creative leader.
I have always been an imaginative creator, with a keen sense of self-awareness. My interest in understanding what motivates human behavior developed in early childhood as a shy, perceptive observer. I attribute my intuitive, adaptable, and empathetic personality to being the superpowers that enable me to create meaningful work, memorable experiences, and lasting relationships.
Today I am an aspiring tempered radical with an entrepreneurial and explorative spirit. I feel driven to create unique, positive, and innovative design solutions that deeply align with the human psyche - to achieve greater good through human connection and a thoughtfully designed shared experience. In the meantime, I will continue to build upon my ideas, sketches and conceptualization of an interactive art exhibit that will achieve that shared experience for greater good.
That being said, I’m an avid reader, podcast listener, and always have a handful of side projects I’m working on. My side projects function as a perfect playground for learning and experimenting with new tools, materials, and processes. When I'm not creating you can likely find me out exploring nature, traveling, volunteering, trying a new restaurant, or joyfully sharing a beer/cocktail with friends and family.
So it should come as no surprise that I love meeting new people and experiencing new things! I am constantly looking for events, workshops, and ways to step outside my comfort zone to expand my network, learn and grow. I enjoy reaching out to individuals who inspire me to learn more about how they arrived at this point in life and how they create. Feel free to reach out to me if you’re interested in learning more about me, have opportunity leads, or you’ve got project ideas we could collaborate on.
Cheers!
And I look forward to hearing from you.
I am looking for a full-time opportunity to work with a collaborative team that is building products for the digital or physical space. I want to align myself with a company I believe in, shares my values and where I can create positive change. I am always looking to learn, grow and am open to taking on challenging projects - while having a little bit of fun along the way.
"Carly is exceptionally gifted in approaching problems from a different perspective than your average bear. I would often go to Carly for advice when I felt stuck on a problem I could not work around. Her experience using many mediums was an asset and she would come up solutions I would never have thought of. I would refer other people to Carly for anything that task or project that requires a skillfully executed element, whether it be art or website or a piñata. Carly is always coming up with great ideas. She always had a list of inspiring people to use as roll models. She would often show me a TED talk, a new book or some interview with the designer making waves in the world."
Paul O'Brien - Creative Project Manager
"I have worked with Carly Smith in the capacity of Faculty Advisor in the Cooperative Education Department for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I advised Carly for two semesters for her internships at two different organizations. Both organizations were very happy with Carly's skills, work ethic and personable nature. She performed beyond expectations in both cases, taking initiative in improving project outcomes and contributing innovative ideas in approach. Employers in both cases remarked on her reliability, positive demeanor and cooperative personality."
Lora Lode - SAIC Faculty Advisor
"One of Carly's best talents/personality traits is her ability to be there for others in a proactive way, which makes people confident that they can count on you and come to you for a lot of different things. If you want someone on your side, who will help you in getting things done and motivate you while keeping it all fun and down to earth? GO ASK CARLY SMITH! I would refer people to Carly for her ability to make things fun, while getting them done. In working with Carly her people skills, lightheartedness, and artistic vision were a resource to me as a teammate. Her ability and willingness to help out when asked or needed for whatever reason - serious or not - is an asset and testament to her dedication to supporting others."
Nico Thoumsaint - Creative Project Manager
"In creating my life + relationship coaching business website and marketing material, Carly did an amazing job understanding the personality I wanted to convey and delivered that in the design. During the timely process, Carly was patient, but able to guide me to make decisions. On top of delivering a design I'm thrilled with, and that exceeded my expectations, Carly was an absolute joy to work with and went above and beyond. I would strongly recommend her creative services."
Samantha Jens - Life + Relationship Coach
"In my experience working on the same team as Carly, her strength is creative problem solving. She can look at a problem and see a different solution than most people - she can see the non-obvious answer. I would definitely refer people to Carly for imaginative and creative ideas."
Brianna Walker - Project Coordinator
"Carly is a hard worker, organized and knowledgable with computers. She did our CAD drawings, as well as working alongside our lead designer on many design projects. In addition, Carly took the initiative to research and design projects in their entirety and present to the lead designer for revision and then directly to clients. She works well with others and is a positive team contributor."
